Instagram is my social media jam. I share photos with friends and also see their pictures. It’s a comfortable space for me, or at least it was. Instagram has changed drastically over the years. Ads are everywhere, and it’s more like Snapchat and Facebook than the trendy photo-sharing site it once was. To make matters worse, investigators found that Instagram’s website leaked user contact information, including phone numbers and email addresses.
Inappropriately, there is no easy way to delete your Instagram account from the app.
Delete Or Disable?
You have two main options to get away from Instagram: delete it or deactivate it. Deleting your account permanently deletes it, like Thanos‘ permanent snapshot.
Your profile, photos, videos, comments, likes, and followers list are left forever – SNAP!
On the other hand, deactivating your account hides it until you reactivate it by logging back in. When you buy that cookie bag and put it in the back of your cupboard, you suddenly know about that harrowing day when you need some emotional support. I have said too much.
Request Your Data To Download: Photos, Videos, And More
Before deciding to delete or deactivate, please take a moment to download your data. If you permanently delete your account, that’s the only time you can recover any photos or videos you’ve taken or comments you want to save. You don’t want that photo of you meeting Laura Dern to go away forever.
You can request a data download from a web browser or the app. Once you ask to download your data, Instagram can take hours to compile everything for you to download.
Download Instagram App Data:
- Go to your profile.
- Tap the hamburger blackboard icon at the top right, the three horizontal lines.
- Tap Locations at the bottom right of the screen.
- Touch Security.
- Next, tap Download data.
- Enter your email address and hit the blue Request Download button.
Download Data From A Web Browser:
- Go to your profile.
- Click the Edit Profile button.
- Click Privacy and Security.
- In the Download section and click Request Download.
- Enter your email address and hit the blue Request Download button.
Your Instagram Data Is Ready To Download
You will then find an email with the subject: Your Instagram details. Open the message, and there will be a link to your contact details. This link is valid for four days only. Also, it can generate income for up to 48 hours for Instagram to send you the link. Although, in my experience, it took about an hour.
You click on the link. There will also be separate files from your profile information to your explanations.
Instagram puts them in a JSON file for JavaScript Object Notation. It uses text to display data, making it easier for humans to read.
Instagram Made It Easy To Delete Your Account
The fastest way to delete your account is to visit this Delete Your Account page through a web browser.
You can’t delete your account directly from the Instagram app, but you can go to the Delete Your Account page that starts in the app.
Delete Instagram By Starting In The App
- Go to your profile.
- Tap the hamburger blackboard icon in the top right (the three horizontal lines).
- Tap Surroundings at the bottom right of the screen.
- Touch Help.
- Tap Assistance Center, then a browser opening will appear.
- Touch Manage your account.
- Touch Delete your account.
- Tap How do I remove my account?
- Parchment down to the first step and tap the Delete your account page link.
Once on the Delete Your Account page, select why you delete your account from the dropdown menu. And yes, you have to, or you can’t move on. Then scroll down and enter your PIN when encouraged.
Lastly, press the red button. Could you delete my account permanently? A window will ask if you are definite you poverty to delete your account. Press OK.

Take A Break By Deactivating Your Account
If you want to take a breakdown from IG or are about to delete your account permanently, I highly recommend deactivating it. The dissolute method to do this is to use a web browser and appointment the Provisionally halt your account page.
For The Deactivation Page Through A Web Browser
- Go to the Instagram website.
- Sign in to your account.
- Click on your profile.
- Click the Edit Profile button.
- Scroll down and click Provisionally disable my version at the bottom right.
You can also access the same page through the app, but it is highly cumbersome. Follow the instructions above to access the Delete Your Account page from the Instagram app. Once this page loads, click the link to the Temporarily deactivate your account page.
Once on the page, select why you are deactivating your account from the dropdown menu. Then click the blue Provisionally disable account button. An opening will ask if you are sure you want to delete your account. Press OK..
